Our subscriptions provide essential, up to date information about navigational safety and the Port of London.

Notices to Mariners

Subjects will include (but not be limited to) advice on PLA procedures and/or requirements and notification of new and updated rules and regulations for navigation.

Notices to Mariners are sent at various times throughout the year and due to the nature of activities on the river, the Middle district often receives several notices a week with the Upper and Lower districts receiving them less frequently.

We issue notices in the following ways:

  • Portwide – Notices that affect the entire Port of London jurisdiction (from Teddington to the North Sea).
  • Upper, Middle & Lower: Notices that affect each district only. Sometimes Notices will cross two districts – where this is the case we will issue duplicate Notices in each affected district. These Notices are separate to Portwide Notices.
  • Notices to Agents, Berths and Ship Operators are sent a few times a year.
  • Safety Bulletins and Navigational Warnings are distributed to all subscribers on an as needed basis.

We periodically ask for feedback on matters affecting navigational safety or developments on the tidal Thames.
