Application For AHAF Scholarship

The Armida Huerta Adventure Fund offers bikepacking and/or packrafting course scholarships for Black, Indigenous, Latina and/or other women of color. Armida's Fund is for people who do not have the means to pay for these types of courses or the gear and travel necessary for these courses. The post-course, refundable $100 deposit prevents last minute cancellations. 🙏🏽🙏🏿🙏🏻

Extremely Fit: I ride/run 100s of miles per week, paddle 25 & take the staircase two steps at a time.

More Fit Than Average: I exercise regularly and can easily bike 50 miles per day, paddle 15 or hike 15.

Average: I exercise regularly and 50 miles of riding or 15 miles of paddling would kick my ass, but I'd love every minute of it!

Infrequently: I try to get exercise a few times per week, but life gets so busy it's hard sometimes. But I'm stoked to try as hard as I can!

Other: I'm really inexperienced and I don't know what level I am.

How comfortable are you in running water?

Uncomfortable. I cannot swim.

Somewhat comfortable. I can swim, but moving water and rivers intimidate me

Comfortable. I like rivers, but can use some guidance and skills

Very comfortable. Rivers are my second home. Let's go!

Uncomfortable. I've never ridden a bike before.

Somewhat comfortable. I've ridden a townie around where I live.

Comfortable. I love and am very comfortable riding a bike.

Very comfortable. I am a competent cyclist on road gravel and/or mountain.

Please note these courses are not run by trained therapists and should not be the place where you seek treatment for trauma you may have experienced due to racism you have experienced. Do you anticipate the trip being intense and/or emotionally difficult. If so, would you be interested in being linked up with a mental health professional, separate from the trip?

We also understand this may not be possible, so your answer does not affect whether or not we will approve your grant.
