Dear Sirs,

I hope this message finds you well. Recently, we observed the removal of over 80 old-growth trees at the junction of North Main Road, merging into Kalyaninagar via the Aga Khan Bridge. The reasoning provided was for the city's development and the alleviation of traffic congestion.

While we understand the need for development, widening roads under the latest FSI laws raises concerns about denser neighborhoods and increased traffic, as permitted by the UDCPR. We are curious about your long-term plans for tree felling and when you anticipate being satisfied with the current scale of development.

Recently 80 trees were felled at the end of north main road in Kalyaninagar. A simple solution such as giving a dedicated free left to Kalyaninagar would have reduced the congestion on this road by half.

The imminent reconstruction of St Miras Bridge has brought to our attention the potential risk to several significant old banyan trees in the vicinity. We propose considering alternatives such as an elevated road from Yerwada Junction to RSI Chowk to spare these valuable trees.

Is tree felling the only avenue for achieving development goals? We cherish the green cover in Koregaon Park, and recent events have left us questioning the impact on our surroundings. The memories of North Main Road being adorned with banyan trees, contributing to a cooler environment, are fading as temperatures rise and green spaces diminish.

Koregaon Park, once characterized by a balance of nature, is now grappling with traffic congestion, skyscrapers, untreated sewage, water scarcity, and a depleted groundwater table. The recent tree removals exacerbate our concerns for the environment, and we urge you to reconsider the approach to development.

We implore you to think beyond short-term gains and prioritize the preservation of our century-old trees. We understand the challenges of development but request transparent discussions and deliberations on alternative plans that will safeguard our environment.

The current state of Pune's air quality and environmental degradation necessitates urgent attention. We appeal to you to prioritize clean air, pure water, and uncontaminated soil in your plans.

We believe that by addressing these concerns, PMC can foster greater public trust and engagement in important decisions that impact our environment.

Sincerely,

AMEET SINGH                   HEMA CHARI
