Applications are considered on a first come - first served basis. Awarded funds will be available for a period of 6 months; unclaimed funds after this period will no longer be available and will be released for new grantees.
Travel grantsTravel grants up to $3,000 are available to support allowable travel costs for the official presentation of work at conferences/workshops/expos/events. There must be a strong link of the work to elements of the entrepreneurial mindset. A $3,000 limit is applied for any given initiative/project and can be used by multiple participants, although an approved faculty/staff lead is required and must participate. Presentations must be formally accepted for funding consideration.Travel to attend such events without formal presentations is not supported. Travel for project coordination is not supported. This is a funding initiative specifically for faculty/staff development as opposed to student travel; the majority of funds must be used for faculty/staff travel; the Provost’s office has separate funding opportunities for students.
Publication grantsPublication grants up to $3,000 are available to support allowable costs for the publication of significant works in journals, books, monographs, etc. There must be a strong link of the work to elements of the entrepreneurial mindset. Publication venues are required to be considered high quality publication outlets based on the norms of one’s field and department. For example, for journals, there is an expectation that the journal is a highly cited, high impact factor, quartile one, archival publication. For books and monographs, a reputable publisher with a clear track record in the related area is required. Self-published works may be appropriate if the intent is broad-low cost circulation for educational purposes (e.g., an educational e-book). A $3,000 limit is applied for any given initiative/project.
Terms and ConditionsIn your presentation, as appropriate, you will be asked to include Ciocca Center in your acknowledgement of support. They must agree to conform to all standard Santa Clara University travel policies and reimbursement guidelines. You must be willing to present your work through on-campus Ciocca Center activities and/or through other venues such as Center newsletters, thought leadership pieces, etc. You must also provide a brief trip report. Depending on the venue, there may be opportunities for awardees to distribute broader information regarding Ciocca Center and/or to represent the Center in different ways. These opportunities will be explored on an individual basis. Periodically (once a month or more), travel requests will be reviewed. The process is that 3 Ciocca Center Faculty Advisory Board members will review submissions. If approved, Ciocca Center staff will follow up to help process reimbursements. To help ensure the equitable availability of funds across the university, 1 award in each Category of awards will be reserved for faculty/staff from each of the main academic units: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Leavey School of Business, the Law School, the School of Engineering, and the School of Education and Counseling Psychology. For awards, Center staff will administer activities to include the archival of presentation materials, the reimbursement of approved travel expenses, and receipt of the trip report. Staff will also coordinate awardee participation in follow-on Center activities. These will be held for such applicant for the first 6 months of the program; if unclaimed at that point they will be released for general use.
