Chinese BEV dominance: how western auto and fleet finance providers, dealers and OEMs should respond

11th December 2023: 16.00 (UK) 60 minutes

One time president of GM Indonesia and former managing director of JD Power Operations, Michael Dunne is an expert on China and on cars.

Raised in Detroit, sometime resident of Shanghai, Bangkok and Jakarta across the last twenty five or so years, Dunne has studied the evolution of the Chinese car industry from joint ventures with Western OEMS (an arrangement he describes in a very Chinese way - as one bed, two dreams a phrase which acknowledges the very different objectives of the two partners) to a future in which China utterly dominates the global electric vehicle ecosystem.

The webinar will include:

  • Understanding the scale of dominance of Chinese manufacturers and their supply chains in the ecosystem
  • Consequent strengths and weaknesses of Chinese OEMs
  • Discuss the implications for Western OEMs  - how are western OEMs and governments likely to respond
  • Identifying the opportunities for European auto, fleet finance providers, dealers and OEMs.

One hour webinar will begin with a presentation from Michael on “China - the automotive Godzilla” followed by a panel discussion on the implications and likely next steps for western auto ecosystem participants. As usual, we will encourage questions from delegates and do our very best to answer them during the session.

We have a brilliant panel, which promises to deliver a very lively discussion:

  • Michael Dunne, CEO, Dunne Insights
  • Ian Plummer, Commercial Director, Autotrader
  • Tony Whitehorn, former chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK

Moderated by David Betteley, leader – automotive, Asset Finance Connect
