Grant Application | Community Groups

The Common and Community Futures are working together to provide discounted venue rentals for community groups.  
  • The Purpose of this grant is to support new groups that wish to have regular meetings at The Common, and which are involved in specific sectors (see criteria below), but are unable to find funding for a venue rental.
  • The Goal of this grant is to help bring people together to learn, collaborate and connect in a physical space.
  • The Mission of this grant is to foster innovation in Squamish
Before completing this form, please note that:
  1. Events and meetings hosted by the group should be open to the general public.
  2. We encourage some of the events or meetings covered by this grant, to appeal to a wider section of the community. This is to encourage connections between diverse groups and sectors, which is an underlying mission of The Common.
  3. This grant is open to all community groups. Therefore, we encourage the applicant to use this grant to help develop a sustainable business model for their group so others can take advantage of this programme. Evidence of a growth plan and roadmap towards sustainable funding is highly encouraged.
Anyone can apply, however this grant is aimed at groups working in;
  • Technology: Startups. Ai, Machine Learning, Entrepreneurship. Green economy.
  • Outdoor Recreation: Film & Media. Apparel Design.
  • Human potential and well being: Health and Wellness.
The application should demonstrate that the events or meetings held by the group are in some part, focused on one or more of the following two areas; 
  • Community Building
  • Sustainability or Environmental Stewardship

When was your first meeting?
How do you describe your group to the public?
If you are not a non-profit or charity, is it a volunteer (only) organisation? Do you have a committee? How many organising members? What's the structure of the group? 
If an existing group, how many people attend your events (the last three events), or are active members of your group?
Who can attend your group, event or meetings? Is it suitable for the general public? If it is a private group, restricted to members, or a mix of member and public events please give details.

Application

What does your group do? How does it help people or a cause? Why should we fund this?
What will be the format of your meeting or event? What is the content matter of a typical meeting or event?
Does your group receive any funding from other sources? Have you tried to secure other funding? Detail any other businesses, government grants you have applied to, have received or plant to apply to.
How often are you planning to meet?
How many people will your group reach (what will be the impact) over the period of the grant? If it is not people (reach), what other impacts will funding the group have?
An underlying mission of this grant, is to foster connections between different sectors of our community. How will your group promote and support this goal? 
How will you grow the group? If required a portion of the budget can be used for advertising. Alternatively, if you have other plans or internal resources please provide any details here.
The grant is for groups that do not have a revenue stream, however we encourage groups to find one. Do you plan to charge a membership fee, fundraise, reach out to your network to generate revenue? 
The Common will provide successful applicants a discounted venue rental of $100, for up to three hours. Movie setup is extra. For reference, a regular venue rental is between $250-500 per night. 

Community Futures will provide funding of up to $1,000 per annum, per group to cover rental costs and marketing.
