Peace Piece Header-1

Climate change and environmental degradation are already increasing insecurity and conflict risks around the world. In places experiencing conflict, action to mitigate and adapt to climate change can contribute to building more resilient and more peaceful societies especially considering that staying within the 1.5°C limit is an essential condition to support peace and well-being around the world. Peace and conflict management, conflict prevention, the compounding effects of climate change on conflict-affected communities, and conflict sensitivity should be part of the official COP28 agenda, discussed in negotiations, and included in agreements or other outcome documents.

Join the Peace@COP community, a collaborative group of more than 40 organizations and 100 individuals from different countries, sectors, and backgrounds, for a discussion of what is possible for peace at COP28.

This online briefing will kick off a biweekly series of primers for peace at COP28, assembling practitioners, researchers, and policy-makers from around the world to prepare for Dubai in December. The first briefing, held on the International Day of Peace, will focus on policy opportunities. Confirmed speakers will be announced by the end of August.
