The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Voces Nuevas (New Voices) is a competitive program where students from HACU-member institutions across the U.S. and Puerto Rico apply to receive leadership, advocacy and career development training.

Applicants will be considered for two separate opportunities through a single application: (1) selection into the student leadership cohort, and (2) sponsorship to attend one of HACU’s conference events.
Please note that selection into the cohort does not guarantee sponsorship.

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be willing to be sponsored by a corporate, federal or nonprofit sponsor
  • Have not received a HACU sponsorship to attend Annual Conference or Capitol Forum in previous years.

Program Details:

This is an 8-month program where 50 students from HACU’s network will have the unique opportunity to develop their leadership and advocacy skills and serve as ambassadors promoting HACU programs.
Selected students will participate in leadership and career development opportunities throughout the duration of the program.

  • Closes: June 20, 2025
You will need to submit your unofficial transcripts, one-page resume and essay responding to the following prompt:

In 600–800 words, please respond to the following three components:

  1. Reflect on a time when you took initiative or demonstrated leadership—whether formally or informally—in your school, community, or personal life. What was the situation, and what role did you play? How did your actions create a positive impact, and what did you learn about yourself and your leadership style?

  2. Explain your motivation for applying to this student leadership program. Why do you want to be part of this experience? What do you hope to learn, and how do you plan to use the knowledge, skills, and connections you gain?

  3. What does being an HACU Ambassador mean to you? Describe how you see yourself representing HACU’s mission, values, and the communities it serves. How would you carry this responsibility forward in your personal, academic, or professional life?

We are seeking responses that show depth of thought, clarity of purpose, and a strong sense of leadership potential and commitment to service.
