Machine Operator /  Assistant Cook

There is easy transportation provided via the LIRR to Lynbrook (Babylon line which is walking distance to the location), or Metro bus which begins in Jamaica, NY and travels down Sunrise Hwy and Merrick Road (also close to the location). Or by car, which the company is willing to pay for parking.

Job Description:

The Assistant Cook, sometimes called an Assistant Chef, prepares the meals. This person’s duties include cooking the meal according to the training and directions of the Executive Chef. Once the food is ready for the assembly production line, he/she will deliver each meal item to the line team for portioning in food trays.

The Assistant Cook’s main responsibilities and duties include:

  • Check Temperature of each meat/poultry item.
  • Prepping Fresh Spices (onion/thyme/peppers etc. for the meals.
  • Collaborating with the Executive Chef (Person-in-Charge).
  • Maintaining a pantry stock and batch records.
  • Documenting Cooking and Cooling recordkeeping in compliance with company procedures and related forms.
  • Making sure that he/she conforms to ALL compliance requirements for the food preparation area according to USDA rules.

Requirements:

A successful candidate for the Assistant Cook position should have the following prerequisite skills and qualifications in order to fulfill their duties effectively:

  • In-depth knowledge of various cooking techniques.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and hygiene protocols.
  • Strong team spirit.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • One year or more experience as a Cook in the restaurant industry or manufacturing (Knowledge of preparing Jamaican Food a plus).
  • Working knowledge of mathematical principles such as ratios and proportions.
  • Excellent communication skills

 

FULL-TIME/PART-TIME: Part -Time 

SALARY: $20 per hour 

SHIFT: Second Shift

AVAILABILITY:   Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm.
