DiNG for Eventbrite

Apply to be a speaker

DiNG is a free evening event in Nottingham city centre with food and drink provided.

It aims to provide a regular, informal, gathering for people working in the development of products and services to learn about design, innovation and research through practical talks and open discussion.

We invite anyone who has insights to share around design, design/user research, innovation, product development, entrepreneurship, or the creation of design/product teams to apply to be a speaker. You could be at the very start of your career, someone who’s just switched careers, someone in a related field who has relevant learning to share, or someone who is very experienced in the field of design and innovation. Joint talks with other speakers are very welcome.

Target Audience

  • Anyone who works in the design and development of products and services
  • Primarily aimed at: Design researchers, user researchers, UX designers, founders, entrepreneurs, product managers, developers

Talk style

Each meetup has two 30-minute talks. Our aim is for the audience to learn in a practical way from the successes and failures of others, so the focus should be on your own experiences (good and bad!), what resources you drew on and what you’ve learned. Topics that works well are:

  • Your career trajectory, from your first role, to where you are now
  • How you applied a theory or framework to a particular problem
  • How you developed your own way of tackling a particular task
  • The process of joining/building a team and working together on a project
  • How you use particular tools or processes in your work
  • What you have learned from working in a particular setting or on a particular project

These are just ideas - if there’s something else you would like to talk about, feel free to suggest it!

Resources

A projector is available, so feel free to use slides if you want to (not using slides is absolutely fine too). You can bring your own laptop or email slides to us in advance and we can get them set up. If you have any other resources, like sheets or cards, let us know and we can help get them distributed.
