At Digs with Dignity, we aspire to break the cycle of homelessness by furnishing homes with creative, custom designs using sustainable, upcycled solutions.  As a 501(c)(3), Digs with Dignity partners with Chicago-based social service agencies to identify those in need and utilizes a warehouse of donated and refurbished furniture and home goods to outfit homes. Founded in 2019, we have helped furnish homes for over 200 families in Chicago while keeping over 220,000 lbs of furniture and waste out of landfills.

We seek a detailed, solution-oriented Head of Internal Operations to join Our Crew. The Head of Internal Operations will oversee and optimize our operational processes, systems, and logistics for our 10K sq ft warehouse in Bridgeport, volunteers, and teams to support our organizational growth. Reporting to the Executive Director and collaborating with the Head of External Affairs, this individual plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient inventory and operational capacity coordination, ultimately enhancing programming, partners, and family experiences. They will manage and develop 5 operations staff, including the Design Team, the Moving Team, and the Repair and Restoration Team. Role Responsibilities 

Operations:

  • Oversees the implementation of all warehouse operations, including logistics, inventory, workflow, scheduling systems, donation delivery/pick-up, transportation, safety and security, closing procedures, etc.
  • Ensure accurate receipt of inventory, storage and distribution, maximizing space and resources, and avoiding waste or damages.
  • Develop, document, and execute standard operating procedures across teams to improve productivity, customer service, and service capacity to support strategic plans.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance for vehicles, equipment, donations, and warehouse.
  • Develop and oversee DIGS Day weekly schedules to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Manage quality assurance, risk management, and compliance with local and federal laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team for strategic planning, financial forecasting, and growth plans.

Program Development:

  • Grow the volunteer and DIGS Day programs for sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the Client Liaison to expand engagement experiences and support that are aligned with the mission, vision, and organization direction.

Volunteer Management:

  • In collaboration with the Head of External Affairs, manage the logistics and program processes, including volunteer engagement and schedules (weekdays and weekends). 
  • Develop, document, and train the team on safety policies to support programming.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure contract compliance in conjunction with the program team.

 

Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Operations, or related degree.
  • 5+ years of operations management experience with a track record of improving performance, processes, and systems.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams, managing projects, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and expectations.
  • Flexible to changing priorities and conditions.
  • Open to ambiguity, adaptability, and constantly learning for personal growth and to expand perspective.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills that is people-centered to build strong relationships with volunteers, staff, and DIGS Families.
  • Reflective about personal strengths and weaknesses and able to effectively balance confidence with humility.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for Digs with Dignity’s mission to support families in need and make a meaningful impact in the community.
