Leveraging Census Data to Gain a Deeper Understanding of Southern Nevada's Population Trends and Community Needs

Course Overview:
Understanding and utilizing demographic data is essential for crafting strong, data-driven grant proposals. This workshop will focus on accessing and interpreting demographic profiles through the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS). Participants will learn how to navigate key Census data tools to access concise summaries of social, economic, and housing characteristics in Southern Nevada, as well as other community related datasets.  Join us to develop the skills needed to efficiently locate and apply relevant demographic information to support your grant writing efforts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discover what Census data profiles and datasets provide the best information to help you better understand your community
  • Navigate data.census.gov, Narrative Profiles, and My Community Explorer to access community level data
  • Learn how to use interactive mapping tools to assess a community’s level of social vulnerability to potential disasters
  • Locate the Census Bureau's grant writing resources
