Skills to Build Internship Grant Application

MKE Tech Hub Coalition is partnering with Employ Milwaukee to expand employer access to the Skills to Build Program. This Program consists of workforce programming that supports well-paying middle—and high-skilled jobs in Information Technology industries and occupations. As part of this Program, both organizations are distributing funding from a Department of Labor Grant to reduce employer costs of hiring and skilling tech talent.

This grant application is for employers interested in offsetting the costs of operating Internship programs for tech occupations. Employers may be based anywhere, but tech talent supported through the grant must reside in Southeastern Wisconsin, specifically Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Waukesha, and Washington counties.

The grant award process has four phases:

1) Application: Interested employers fill out this grant application.
2) Interviews: Employers who do not meet grant qualifications will not advance to this phase and will be notified. Qualified employers will advance to the interview phase and discuss their objectives for execution with the MKE Tech & Employ Milwaukee teams.
3) Grant enrollment: Qualified employers will enroll in the Skills to Build Program.
4) Execution: Qualified employers will conduct their chosen program activity (hiring interns) and receive grant support to offset the costs of said activity.

The Internship Program requires employers to complete a short (1-2 pg) template-guided monthly report. Grant support (up to 3 months of market-rate wages at 29 hrs/week) is then paid directly to interns from Employ Milwaukee. Please check yes or no to indicate whether you consent to this process.*
