Share Your People Birding Photos

We invite individuals 18 and over to share pictures of yourself, family, or friends celebrating in the joy of connecting to nature through birds. These pictures should have people in them engaged in the act of birding. Chosen photos may appear on the Great Backyard Bird Count web pages. Your photo might become famous!

All individuals who submit people photo(s) in accordance with the Rules and Terms will be entered into a drawing to win one FREE Bird Academy Course of their choosing. The catalogue for courses can be found here.

Submitted emails will be added to the Great Backyard Bird Count eNewsletter list.
Photos must be at least 2400 pixels (width) x 1000 pixels (height). Accepted file types are:
.JPEG, .JPG, .PNG, or .TIF

Rules and terms:

  • No formal participation (completed eBird checklist) in the Great Backyard Bird Count is required.
  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • All entries must be submitted through this page.
  • All photo subjects must provide written consent to be photographed; parents will be asked to provide additional written consent for minors if the picture is used on our website.
  • All photos should be taken during the count - February 14-17, 2025. 
  • Deadline for photo submissions is March 1, 2025.
  • Unlimited entries permitted per person, but names will only be entered once into the drawing.
  • Images must have people in them.

All participants should review the Content License Agreement below and check 'Yes, I accept the terms of this contest.'

By submitting photos, you agree to the following License terms: 

  1. I hereby grant to Cornell University on behalf of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (“Cornell Lab”), the National Audubon Society, and Birds Canada (collectively, “Licensees”) a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable and perpetual license, in all media (print, electronic, or other), to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, and publicly display any and all photos I submit through the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) webpage(s) (the “Photos”) on GBBC webpages and GBBC social media for purposes related solely to the GBBC program.
  2. I warrant that the Photos are my original work and do not infringe on the legal rights of any third party. I further warrant that I have written permission from each individual appearing in the Photos allowing me to use their image, including written permission from the parent(s) or legal guardian of any child under the age of 18.  
  3. I agree that I will hold the Licensees harmless from any claims, actions, demands, liabilities, losses, damages, costs, or expenses of any kind (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from a breach of the foregoing warranties. 
  4. I understand that I am solely responsible for protecting my copyright in the Photos from infringement by a third party; the Licensees are not responsible for pursuing such claims on my behalf.
  5. The Licensees reserve the right to use/not use and/or dispose of the Photos as deemed appropriate. 
  6. I represent that I am 18 years old or older and have read and understand the terms of this Agreement. 
  7. I understand this License shall be interpreted by the laws of the State of New York, regardless of conflicts of laws principles.
